Lake Villa man indicted on charges of aggravated battery to Gurnee police officer

A Lake Villa man who officials said struck Gurnee police officers during a confrontation at a movie theater over the summer has been indicted on three felony charges by a Lake County grand jury.

Marcellus R. Clark, 26, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and one count of resisting a police officer causing injury, officials said.

Around 10:40 p.m. on June 6, the manager at a local movie theater called 911 to report a verbal disturbance, according to a Gurnee police spokeswoman.

When officers arrived, they found Clark was intoxicated and he tried to walk away to find his girlfriend. After officers told him to stop, Clark approached aggressively and got within inches of the officers' faces, police said.

The officers pushed Clark away, told him to stay back and then Clark starting swinging at the officers, striking them in the chest and arms, police said.

After being placed into custody, Clark told police he was experiencing shoulder pain and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for an evaluation, police said.

While there, Clark was aggressive toward the hospital staff and continued to argue with the officers, police said.

Police said when the officers tried to put Clark back into handcuffs he resisted and he and the officers ended up tussling to the ground. During the tumble, one of the officers was cut on his arm several times and received a puncture wound to the forearm, police said.

Clark was uninjured and the officers did not take time off because of their injuries, police said.

Clark's arraignment hearing is scheduled for Nov. 9.
