Saint Viator announces new scholarship, grant opportunities

The Saint Viator High School board of trustees passed a resolution on Oct. 10, to increase the number of opportunities for the high school's Tuition Assistance program.

The current Tuition Assistance program annually provides over $2 million of support to roughly one-third of the student body at Saint Viator. With the new addition of scholarships, Saint Viator is doubling down on a commitment to provide a Catholic, college-preparatory education for any students seeking academic excellence grounded in faith.

New scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic school year include a multi-child discount and a legacy scholarship.

"We recognize the sacrifices families make to send their children to Catholic schools, and we are committed to making a Saint Viator high school education affordable," says Chris Bremner, director of admissions.

"Everyone deserves a chance to experience a faith-based education. We want to invest in your child's education with you."

• New Multi-Child Discount: Honoring families with more than one child attending Saint Viator High School: Second child discount of $2,000; third child discount of $2,500; fourth child discount of $3,000.

• New Legacy Discount: Honoring past Saint Viator and Sacred Heart graduates, this program offers a $500 discount to legacy students each year.

These two new scholarship opportunities will take effect for the 2024-2025 academic year and join the existing tuition resources, which include:

• Academic Merit Scholarships: Merit scholarships will automatically be awarded to students who score in the 90th percentile or above nationally on the Saint Viator Dec. 2 entrance exam. Students scoring in the 97-99th percentile will be awarded $2,500 per year; students scoring in the 94-96th percentile will be awarded $1,500 per year; students scoring in the 90-93rd percentile will be awarded $1,000 per year. Please note, to be eligible for an academic scholarship, prospective students must take the Entrance Exam at Saint Viator on Saturday, Dec. 2.

• Catholic Elementary Student Discount: A $1,000 freshman year discount available to students graduating from a Catholic elementary school. This discount acknowledges and honors the commitment families make keeping their children in Catholic education and is sponsored by a generous alumnus.

• Catholic Educator Discount: The revised program will provide a tuition discount at $2,500 per student, per year going forward for any full-time Catholic elementary school employee. Previous recipients will be grandfathered into the prior educator program upon request.

• Kate Schafer Costello '70 Grant: This need-based grant is intended for an incoming freshman who attended a Catholic elementary school and who also demonstrates financial need. The student must have been involved in performing arts at her/his Catholic elementary school and will participate each year in Saint Viator's play and/or musical.

• Summer Work Study & Internship Program: This need-based program will place students in entry-level summer jobs, where they will earn up to $3,000 (tax-free). This program focuses on families in need that qualify for more than 50% of tuition. Priority is given to students that are rising 10th 11th, or 12th graders. Interns must be 16 years old by the first day of the program.

• Need-based general Tuition Assistance: Each individual submission is carefully reviewed to assess every family's respective need.
