Police: Round Lake Beach 17-year-old dies after falling off fence

A 17-year-old boy who fell while climbing a fence at his home early Thursday morning has died, Round Lake Beach police said.

Officials said it appears the fall was an accident and not suspicious in any way.

The boy, identified as Alexis Rodriguez, appears to have been climbing the fence of his family home on the 2000 block of Evergreen Lane around 12:30 a.m. Thursday when he fell, police said.

People in the home heard a loud crash, found him near the fence and called 911, police said.

When first responders arrived they found Rodriguez was not conscious and not breathing. Despite lifesaving measures, he soon was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

An autopsy performed Thursday by the Lake County Coroner's Office concluded Rodriguez suffered blunt-force injuries to his neck.
