Kane County deputy critically injured in head-on crash near Pingree Grove

A Kane County sheriff's deputy is in critical condition after his patrol vehicle was struck head-on early Monday by a large pickup truck hauling a trailer near Pingree Grove.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Route 47 near Plank Road, just west of Pingree Grove.

Deputy Brian Anderson, 33, was on duty and driving a Dodge Durango SUV squad south on Route 47. The pickup, a Dodge Ram 5500 with dual rear wheels, tried to stop in traffic but veered from the northbound lanes and hit the squad.

Anderson was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, a Leval 1 trauma center in Downers Grove. He is being treated for leg fractures, according to the sheriff's office.

He has worked for the sheriff for 10 months. Before joining the sheriff's office, Anderson was an Arlington Heights police officer.

The driver, Indalecio Munoz of Marseilles, and two passengers in the pickup were taken to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
