A small Elgin church with a big heart is celebrating its 60th anniversary
Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Elgin is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
This small congregation has always had a commitment to supporting local organizations in Elgin -- including Elgin Area School District U-46 families, CROP Hunger Walk, Vineyard Church, Soup Kettle, and PADS -- both financially and with other assistance.
This year, as they celebrate the church's anniversary, they hope to help others find and settle into a new home here in Elgin.
Christ the Lord has embarked on a mission to raise funds for Hanover Landing, a new residence on Elgin's east side for people dealing with homelessness or mental health issues.
So far, this small congregation has raised almost $23,000.
This donation will provide items needed to help the first residents of Hanover Landing settle in and provide funds for future residents.
Christ the Lord Lutheran Church is located at 12N462 Tina Trail, off Highland Avenue on Elgin's west side.
The church, which meets at 9:30 a.m. Sundays, welcomes everyone.
