Don't use public funds for private schools

Public funds should be for public schools that serve all children. Our schools need an appropriate level of funding to do that.

The "Invest in Kids Act" was a backroom deal between former Gov. Rauner and the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago. This law takes away up to $75 million in tax revenue from public schools and diverts it to private schools. This is not extra money. It is money taken away from public school funding.

These private schools can discriminate on the basis of religion, disability status, LGBTQ+ and more. Example: They might not admit your special needs child who has an IEP.

These vouchers also harm public schools by violating the fundamental principle of separation of church and state. The "Invest in Kids Act" must sunset (end) after this school year as the Illinois General Assembly intended.

Public school funds need to be used for public schools that serve all children.
