Being old doesn't make building historical

I want to congratulate the Geneva City Council and the mayor for saving an old unhistorical dump. Just because something is old does not make it historical.

The provenance of the building is suspect to say the least. But now with the denial of a demolition permit, you have set the course of the City for the next five or 10 years.

The city has in effect taken Shodeen's property without compensation. Recent Supreme Court cases do not look favorably on such actions. Litigation will follow and in five or 10 years, the city will no doubt lose, have to pay its attorneys and probably the plaintiff's attorney and then allow demolition.

I would suggest that the city, forest preserve district, park district and county buy the property now. The Corps of Engineers already said the dam should come down. Turn the whole area into a water feature as Yorkville did. Tubing, kayaking, whitewater and ecologically sound for fish and wildlife
