Bears not supporting their quarterbacks
The NFL world has mocked the Bears organization for passing up on top quarterback draft picks like Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, thinking that had they drafted either of them, the team would be better. The truth is, it doesn't matter if they had. Mahomes would not have been a stellar, two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback if he were with the Bears, nor would Watson have had the career he had in Houston.
Why? Because their associated organizations built weapons to support their quarterbacks, whether it is drafting or adding additional players or creating plays that utilize their abilities.
The Bears have not done this with Justin Fields. A new quarterback's first two years are the most important, and that ship seems to have sailed for him.
Looking further north, we see the Packers now on their third starting quarterback in 30 years. Rodgers learned from Favre sitting behind him for three years, and Love learned from Rodgers for three years. In this time, they learned from a veteran quarterback and the system.
So what is the solution? Stop throwing rookie quarterbacks into the fire, and build around them based on their abilities. Get a veteran quarterback for them to sit behind and learn from them, get coaching staff that can come up with plays based on their abilities, or else Chicago will continue to be known as a place where a quarterback's career goes to die before it even has a chance to begin.
