A 16-year-old boy accused of firing a handgun in Elmhurst has been ordered detained.
The Bellwood resident is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to a news release issued Thursday by the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
Elmhurst police responded to report of multiple gunshots about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. The teen and another person were spotted about three blocks away from where the 911 call came and ran when they saw the police car, the news release said.
As the officers chased them, the boy threw a Glock 17 9 mm pistol, the news release said. Police later found nine 9 mm live rounds and four spent shell casings. The teen's next court appearance is set for Oct. 2.
