Antioch routs Grayslake North; rematch with Wauconda up next

Antioch continued its run of dominance Friday, defeating Grayslake North 50-13 on the road.

Despite a big matchup next week, the undefeated Sequoits (5-0, 3-0 Northern Lake County Conference) showed no letdown, scoring twice before Grayslake North's offense took the field. Nick Day scored on a 3-yard run, and Aiden Van Alstine added another touchdown after Jack Bucar recovered a fumble on the kickoff.

Antioch will play Wauconda, the lone conference team to defeat Antioch a year ago, and the first team Antioch has played that currently has a winning record.

"I'm not going to let (us lose) again," Day said. "This is my third year on varsity. I have lost to them twice and I'm not going to let that happen again."

In preparation for the Bulldogs, Antioch showed its offense could be lethal no matter who had the ball.

Each of Antioch's first four touchdowns were scored by a different player. Martin Cohen followed up Day and Van Alstine with a 3-yard touchdown run. Tyler Ingman then caught a touchdown pass from James Sheehan.

"The stars will cancel each other out," Antioch coach Brian Glashagel. "Every team is going to have their star athletes. It's the next crew of guys that you got (that makes the difference). We really love that next level of guys we got that are showing up and playing."

Cohen would go on to score two more times, including a 93-yard reception where he reached over the defender to grab the ball near the 40-yard line and then sprinted the rest of the way for the score.

"I told (Sheehan) I'm going to turn my route up and he trusted me," Cohen said. "He trusted me. He threw the ball up. I said I have to go get that. I got up, caught it, started to fall, put my arm down and then just saw green, so I kept going."

Cohen finished with 97 yards rushing, and 143 yards receiving. Day added 87 yards rushing to go along with his two touchdowns.

Grayslake North (1-4, 0-3) scored its first touchdown on Lamont Duncan-Williams' 1-yard run midway through the second quarter.

North scored its final touchdown with Mitchell Hughes finding Christian Filas in the fourth quarter.

Antioch will look to carry the momentum to Wauconda next week.

"Let's be honest, that has been circled on our calendar for a year," Glashagel said.
