Unincorporated areas need single waste hauler

As residents in unincorporated Milton Township for 34 years, our family wholeheartedly supports County Board member Sheila Rutledge's effort to bring a single waste hauler to our neighborhood.

Climate change reporter Jenny Whidden wrote an excellent article describing our current situation of having multiple haulers sending multiple trucks on multiple days of the week. She covered the environmental impact of air pollution and noise pollution, and how both would be mitigated by a single hauler sending just a couple of trucks down our street one day a week.

We hope all residents of unincorporated Milton Township and the other townships will answer the county's survey about waste haulers. Not only will the environment benefit from a single hauler, but our pocketbooks should also. The county will pick the best bid to provide the most service for lowest costs to consumers.

Moreover, the wear and tear on the unincorporated roads will be lessened. Over time, not having to repeatedly repair or resurface roads beaten up by multiple waste haulers may result in a lower tax rate from our township highway departments.

Single waste haulers in unincorporated DuPage County will be a win-win for both the environment and the residents.
