It wasn't broke

I am in total agreement with reader AnnEllen Barr, whose experience with the new, "more convenient" driver's license renewal system mirrored my own. No times available in my preferred location (Des Plaines). Renewal deadline looming but unable to just show up and get it done.

Attempting daily to find an opening with no success. It reminded me very much of the early days of COVID vaccines, when everyone was scrambling to get a shot. And why? Before this debacle, I showed up at my preferred location, waited a reasonable amount of time, took the tests (road and vision) and was done.

Why was that so hard? This new system is clearly a case of trying to fix something that wasn't broken before - but it sure is now.
