The hypocrisy in fears of using 14th Amendment

Oh, my! Byron York's Sept. 1 column in the Daily Herald is sounding the alarm of what tyranny shall befall us if the 14th Amendment is invoked to keep DJT off the ballot in any number of states. He feels it would be unconscionable to deprive voters the right to vote their candidate into office.

He goes on to say that this would set a dangerous precedent going forward.

Apparently the move underfoot by Republican legislators in Georgia and New York to remove Fani Willis and Alan Bragg, respectively, is quite all right with Mr. York. Also, Wisconsin Republicans trying to impeach a newly appointed liberal Supreme Court justice before she has even heard a single case is also of no concern.

I've been waiting for Republicans to jump out of their skins when the 14th Amendment started to gain some traction. "Oh," they will cry, "the 14th Amendment has nothing to do with what happened on Jan. 6". Well, the Proud Boys weren't sentenced to 15-17 years in prison for just objecting to an election.

I can't help thinking about the Second Amendment and how Republicans point to the words regarding regulated state militias and the right to bear arms means that today any individual can own any gun they want. But they are unable to view the 14th Amendment through the same lens.

A lens that on one hand is protecting an individual's right to protect himself by owning a gun, should allow them to see the 14th Amendment was designed to protect all of us and our country from ever having to put a treacherous person in office.

Did DJT rebel and try to overturn the election? Yes. Did he give comfort to the enemies of our Constitution? Yes.
