Aurora Public Library District to host check presentation ceremony to thank legislators

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Aurora Public Library District is having a check presentation ceremony at 2 p.m. in the Santori Library to thank the library district's delegation in the Illinois legislature, especially state Sen. Linda Holmes, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez and state Rep. Stefanie Kifowit for the $400,000 in grant money received last year for the funding of the new bookmobile.

Foundation manager Jordan Lesniak, says "The bookmobile is an important component of the Aurora Public Library District and has been for many years. Everyone is looking forward to this new, state of the art vehicle being on the road to better serve the people of Aurora."

The new bookmobile features a customized Xantrex battery system powered with solar panels. Accessibility features such as an easy-access wheelchair lift, extra wide aisles, and a height leveling system at the entrance make the new bookmobile accessible for all levels of mobility.

The interior offers computers, scanners, printers, face-out shelving for easy browsing, and soft seating areas.

A custom wrap designed by the library's marketing team and chosen by community vote adorns the exterior of the bookmobile.

Library Executive Director Michaela Haberkern says "I am so grateful for the support of our legislators and for the funding for this major project. The bookmobile provides access to library materials and support for the people who need us most, and it's such an important first library for kids in Aurora. We're so fortunate to have legislators who support our initiatives and the community."

Members of the public are invited to join the celebration with light refreshments and library giveaways.

The bookmobile serves all of Aurora, including schools, neighborhoods, parks, and various other community locations.

The bookmobile has a large collection of books in both English and Spanish for adults, teens, and children, comprised of popular fiction, high interest non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, audio books, and DVDs.

It has scheduled stops Monday to Saturday, and is also available for special event appearances including, but not limited to, parades, citywide festivals, school celebrations, and other community events.
