The two individuals blocking civility
Many have recently written about the plague of divisiveness that's overtaken our country; and within the last few days Daily Herald Editor, Jim Slusher, wrote despairingly the disappearance of civility in the realm of the country's politics. These developments have many causes, but I believe onset of the way-too-long presidential campaigns is a major factor. And something can be done about it.
No one would expect Americans to think the same way about the issues of the day - nor should they. Each of us has backgrounds and experiences that influence our views about them: the role of government in our lives, defense, human sexuality, immigration, crime, education, international affairs, climate change, taxation, and the like.
That said, I think there is one idea that all Americans could rally around: my proposition is that neither former President Donald Trump, nor current President Joe Biden, should be reelected to the office of the president. It seems to me that irrespective of one's politics, no clear-thinking American could believe that either of these people have proven suitability for that high office. They each are disqualified for many of the same reasons, and individually, there are added reasons why they should never step into the White House again.
If Americans, both leaders and ordinary citizens, used every legal means possible to shove these two candidates off the stage for presidential contenders, then all the divisive and uncivil blather from either of them, their representatives, or varied pundits would disappear from media formats. Once these two are history, we all could calm down, look around, and hopefully find an acceptable, civil, Democrat or Republican who could govern sensibly, unite the country, and earn the respect of Americans and world leaders too.
