The slippery slope on gun restrictions

The problem as I see it is largely mired in perceptions triggered by the physical appearance of rifles available for sale which "look like" military weapons (i.e., look like M16s, AKs, etc.).

In reality, the weapons everyone is focusing on banning operate no differently than semi-automatic rifles or pistols used in legitimate hunting and sports activities. One pull of the trigger equals one round fired until a magazine is empty.

I don't think most advocates of gun restrictions either do or want to accept this as a fact. That makes it difficult to talk about "common sense" restrictions on guns,

I support the Second Amendment and would gladly agree to restricting high-capacity magazines. However, agreeing to broad gun ownership restrictions of specific semi-automatic weapons quickly leads to the conclusion that all such weapons should be restricted/confiscated, etc. No way do I support traveling down that slippery slope. Too bad the gun industry moved to making replicas of military weapons.
