Flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 76-year anniversary of Pakistan's independence is held in Chicago
On the 76th anniversary of Pakistan's Independence Day, the Pakistani Consulate General in Chicago hosted a Simple but elegant celebration. At Daley Center Plaza, the Pakistani flag was flown, and the Consulate hosted a presentation.
In his remarks, Mayor Brandon Johnson conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the Pakistani-American community and recognized their tremendous commitment to establishing the diverse and dynamic fabric of Chicago. He indicated a desire for a stronger relationship between Chicago and Pakistan, that would be advantageous to both parties.
In his address, Consul General Tariq Karim warmly congratulated the Pakistani-American community on Independence Day and emphasized the occasion's historic importance. He claimed that despite numerous obstacles and disadvantages, Pakistan had made significant development during the past 76 years.
The consul general emphasized how Pakistan's strategic location, its sizable market and demographic dividend, democratic orientation, wealth of natural and human resources, developing tech ecosystem, and liberal investment policies have turned Pakistan into a significant global economic and transit hub. He also highlighted Pakistan as a desirable travel destination with a variety of attractions for tourists. He reiterated Pakistan's support for their just fight for self-determination while calling attention to the suffering of the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).
The Consul General emphasized the value of Pakistan and the United States' historic alliance. He said there was a lot of room for the two sides to improve their relationship in a variety of areas. His statement that Pakistan's engagement with the Midwest regions was increasing with increased trade, investment, and people-to-people interactions was made while outlining his top priorities as Consul General.
The Consul General lauded the contribution made by the vibrant Pakistani-American community, who have not only excelled in their respective fields but have also immensely contributed to the socio-economic development of the two countries. He stated that the community's involvement in sectors such as healthcare, education and technology have fostered innovation and prosperity. The Consul General urged the community to continue actively playing their role in the socio-economic development of the two countries as bridge-builders.
Mayor Brandon Johnson and Consul General Tariq Karim both participated in cutting the Pakistan Independence Day cake.
Several dignitaries, including Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten, and Attorney General Kwame Raoul of Illinois, sent greetings.
The commemoration of Pakistan Independence Day included cultural performances by Pakistani singers, who were joined by the audience.
