Shop local with St. Charles Fairy Walk Aug. 18

Downtown businesses in St. Charles and The Modern Domestic Woman, a women's support community, are collaborating on a fun initiative involving fairy houses.

Starting on Aug. 18, community members and visitors can discover small houses and doors hidden among the landscaping and nestled in planters of various businesses.

The goal? To bring a bit of magic and whimsy to downtown St. Charles, shop small businesses, and encourage people.

Visitors who stumble upon a fairy door or house will find a QR code adjacent to the tiny abode.

This QR code links to a landing page on the St. Charles Fairy Walk website (stcfairywalk.com) that will reveal an uplifting message to the community member and a potential "perk" from one of the participating businesses.

For example, Kimmer's Ice Cream will be giving Fairy Walk participants a free topping on their ice cream scoops, some businesses will offer discounts to shop, and Magnolia Soap & Bath Company will be giving participants a bit of "fairy dust."

On Friday, Aug. 18, the Fairy Walk ribbon cuttings will be hosted at The Pep Line, 201 Cedar Ave., at 4 p.m.; at Ghoulish Mortals, 228 W. Main St., at 4:45 p.m.; and ending at Kimmer's Ice Cream, 1 W. Illinois St., at 5:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite fairy. Learn more at www.stcfairywalk.com.
