When you give God a call, he always listens

"I call on you O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer."

- Psalm 17:6 (NIV)

I had a friend ask me how she could contact me. She inquired if I have an email address, website, fax, cellphone or other means of communication.

In this day and age, we have multiple ways people can contact us. Cell numbers are popular; so is text messaging. Many still have home phones and others have fax machines.

But even though we have the means for several types of contact, there are still times we get someone's voice mail, or experience the frustration of getting cut off in the middle of a conversation wondering if the person can hear us.

It's comforting to know communicating with God is much easier than trying to get contact of our earthly families and friends.

God is omnipresent, which means he is everywhere. He is omnipotent, which means he is all powerful. And he is omniscient, which means he is all knowing. He is not too busy running the universe to hear our requests, as some believe. He has time for each and every one of us. He doesn't place us on hold or ask us to leave a message on his answering machine. He hears us when we call him.

When it comes to communicating with God, we can be glad we don't have to contend with any of the barriers that keep us from connecting with others. Wherever we are, we can just say the name of Jesus and discuss what's on our hearts; then stretch our faith to believe that he hears us.

The closest our modern technology comes to communicating with God is the walkie-talkie; it provides direct communication with the other person. The difference with God, however, is we don't need a signal - we just speak and he hears us. The spiritual workings of it are a mystery.

God is available to talk with us anytime day or night. If we search the Scriptures we will see there are many that discuss the topic of prayer. That shows how important it is for us to talk with God.

Just as a loving parent desires a long-distance call from their child, God devised a plan that we could call on him.
