Calls threatening arrest for missing jury duty are a scam, Cook County sheriff says

Calls from someone purporting to be a member of the Cook County sheriff's office and threatening arrest for missing jury duty are a scam, Sheriff Tom Dart says.

The caller demands a fee to resolve the situation and uses names of actual sheriff's office employees and police jargon to sound legitimate, according to a news release issued Monday.

The sheriff's office never demands money over the phone. If you receive a call like this, refuse to submit payment and don't provide any personal information.

If you have been a victim of this scam, call the sheriff's office at (708) 864-4896 or (847) 635-1188, the news release advised.
