Two report respiratory complaints after chemical reaction

One person was taken to a hospital and another treated at the scene for respiratory complaints after a reported chemical reaction Thursday evening in Lake Zurich.

According to the Lake Zurich fire department, a building on the 800 block of South Rand Road was being evacuated when they arrived. One person was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Their status was unknown Friday. Another person was examined at the scene and released, fire officials said. No other injuries were reported.

According to news release, a maintenance contractor said there was a chemical reaction between chlorine and muriatic acid. The facility was returned to management after no abnormal readings were found but was closed the rest of the day.

Barrington, Barrington Countryside, Countryside, Long Grove, Palatine and Wauconda fire departments assisted.
