Des Plaines police investigating suspicious package

An investigation is currently underway surrounding a suspicious package uncovered at the Des Plaines Police Headquarters earlier today, officials said.

Representatives from multiple local and federal agencies have responded to ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel and the local community, according to a news release from the Des Plaines Police Department.

The Police Department was evacuated, and operations have been moved to City Hall, where services will be provided to the public until normal operations resume.

Two police department staff members who were near the package when it was discovered were taken to the hospital with symptoms that are not life-threatening as a precaution, the release said.

The investigation into the origin and nature of the package is still ongoing, according to the news release. Residents should report any suspicious activities or packages they may encounter.

Officials recommend taking an alternative route due to a large number of emergency vehicles in the area.

Police did not immediately provide further information.
