Implement positive acts to replace hazing

The recent hazing scandal at Northwestern University has certainly stirred up a lot of conversation, including a Daily Herald editorial calling for an end to hazing at all levels.

Here is a missing piece that has been overlooked.

Putting an end to a heinous practice that has resisted countless efforts to ban it hasn't worked very well. Why not? When changing behavior, one must not only stop doing something wrong but also start doing something right.

Don't just ban hazing. Replace hazing.

Identify best practices for building mental and physical toughness with practices that are acceptable and effective.

And implement those practices regularly and rigorously.
