Veterans deserve county benefits

On July 23, the Daily Herald published an article on the impact of the disabled veterans homestead exemption on county budgets.

This was a requirement that accompanied the addition of the surviving spouse to the homestead exemption bill.

In short, we are nation of 325 million defended by fewer than 3 million, less than 1%, who provide us the freedoms that we enjoy today.

We just finished a 20-year war in Afghanistan. Due to medical advances, the survivability on the battlefield has increased tremendously and brought home more veterans with disabilities.

The VA provides funding for disabled vets for both the veteran and the family. This money is spent by the veteran, and with the economic impact of four on these disability claims, the veterans pay their own way. They are not a burden on the county taxpayers.

Any suggestions that these veterans are receiving disability payments that they do not deserve is totally wrong. If you love your freedoms, thank a veteran.
