Flag respect lacking

Regarding the July 8 letter by Larry Casey: Great letter. I would like to mention though, I'm disappointed in the lack of respect the flag does or does not get.

I am a Vietnam veteran and Honor Guard member of both the VFW and American Legion. The past few years, it has been my honor to march in parades (i.e. Memorial day, 4th of July, etc.) but I am disappointed in the lack of people standing and either saluting or placing their hand over their heart, especially from police officers blocking side streets.

To clarify, I do see some officers (older) salute, and also individuals in the crowds, (again, older) but sad to see younger people not honoring the flag as it used to be.

Guess it's the younger generation's lack of knowledge. Used to be an everyday ritual in schools I went to. Hoping to see that change in the future.
