City of Lights Theatre to put on 'Moonlight Cabaret: Turning Points' at The Venue
Prepare to be swept off your feet as the captivating world of musical theater comes alive at the local cabaret show, "Moonlight Cabaret: Turning Points," featuring songs from a collection of award-winning musicals.
The show will transport audiences through the emotional turmoil and pivotal moments in the lives of characters faced with life-altering decisions.
"Moonlight Cabaret: Turning Points" will take place at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturdays, July 15 and 22, at The Venue, 21 S. Broadway Ave. in Aurora.
This performance will bring together an ensemble of local performers performing songs from renowned musicals such as "West Side Story," "The Sound of Music," "Kinky Boots," "The Greatest Showman," "Wicked," "Into the Woods," "Hamilton," "Fiddler on the Roof," and more.
At the heart of "Moonlight Cabaret: Turning Points" lies the exploration of crisis points in a character's life. Each song selected for this production delves into the profound moments where decisions carry the weight of a character's future. Audiences will be captivated by the remarkable storytelling that these powerful songs encapsulate.
"Moonlight Cabaret: Turning Points" aims to celebrate the magic of musical theater and honor the talent that thrives within the community. This production boasts a cast of talented individuals, many of whom are West Aurora High School graduates. Joining these West Aurora alumni are a group of talented and dedicated music educators whose passion for performing goes well beyond the classroom and onto the stage.
"Giving teachers a chance to perform and grow is one of our missions," said Kirsten Currie Tait, artistic and music director of City of Lights Theatre & Cabaret. "We believe that performing music is a lifelong passion. Sometimes teachers get so caught up in the process of teaching and watching their students perform that they do not have many opportunities to live their passion and showcase their spectacular talents."
"Part of our purpose is to provide community to local musicians and actors," says Grace Currie, executive and music director of City of Lights Theatre & Cabaret. "In high school and college, performers come together in tight-knit groups of individuals who admire each others' abilities and care for one another. Why shouldn't that continue into adulthood? People are more lonely now than ever, and we strive to overcome that by bringing performers together through our cabarets. The most beautiful thing that can take place at rehearsal is a new connection between cast members. That's the most satisfying thing to see."
Tickets for the cabaret show are now available and can be purchased online at cityoflightstheatre.org or at The Venue's website, themusicvenue.org.
Tickets are $25 for general admission; $30 for premium table, hi-top table or bar; or $35 for front row table.
