Congressman offers a reason to be thankful

The United States promised thousands of Afghans, who interpreted for the U.S. military, safety upon its withdrawal from the country. But they were left to face the Taliban when it seized control of the country. Veteran Chris McClanthan, an Indiana resident, worked to keep that promise for interpreter, Romal, with whom he became friends in Afghanistan.

When Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and his staff joined the cause, working tirelessly and forcefully with the State Department, Romal was finally granted entry to this country with his wife and infant daughter. They are living Seattle.

The hard work and cooperation exempliified by Krishnamoorthi and his staff should quiet the false belief that our elected officials are ineffective and that citizens, such as Chris McClanthan, cannot effect change by their actions. Let's be thankful and inspired.
