Celebration spoiled
I have attended over 50 of the Arlington Heights Independence Day parades and enjoyed them because people followed the process of obtaining prime viewing spots by claiming them the night before the parade.
This year was entirely different because viewers were allowed to arrive at the last minute, stand in the street where the marchers were going by and block the view of everybody sitting in their claimed spot. We asked those standing in front of us to observe the common courtesy of moving, and they refused.
We left rather than being subjected to their bad-mannered boorishness, and now we have some insights into why people claim there is an increasing amount of ill will in our country.
