Elmhurst Park District's Bags, Brew and BBQ returns July 22

Looking for your next night-out activity with friends? Look no further.

Elmhurst Park District is bringing back the popular event, "Bags, Brew, and BBQ" on Saturday, July 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. on the back lawn of Wilder Mansion.

"When we hosted the first Bags, Brew, and BBQ in 2019, 500 people attended," said Kari Felkamp, director of marketing and communications. "That event was so successful that we added an Adult Egg Hunt back in March, and more than 200 adults braved the weather on one of the coldest days of the year. It's safe to say that adults in Elmhurst know how to have fun!"

The event will feature games like bags, bocce, inflatable yard games and more.

Attendees are invited to grab an adult beverage, explore menu offerings from a variety of food trucks, or just sit and enjoy some music. The event is free and open to ages 21 or older. It is sponsored by The Schiller Team @ Properties and Elmhurst Bank.

The park district's previous strategic planning efforts - known as Vision 2020 - had the main goal of reorienting plans toward the direct wants and needs of community feedback.

That feedback included the desire for more recreation opportunities specifically for adults. Therefore, park district staff created the lively summer event we know and love today, Bags, Brew, and BBQ.

"Many residents explained that although they love bringing their families to our events, they wanted a chance to leave the kids at home and have fun with friends too," Felkamp said. "Bags, Brew, and BBQ is the perfect example of taking the community's feedback and giving residents what they want!"

They didn't stop there! The park district has become increasingly dedicated to providing adult recreation opportunities that are both engaging and diverse, including offering dance, fitness, pickle ball, tennis, sports leagues, and trips.

If you love being creative, you can embrace your inner artist and register for one of our many special interest programs like "Recreating the Masters" or "Watercolor Painting."

If you're into health and wellness events, you can register for programs including "Meditation Medley" or "Feel Better" workshops.

If you enjoy being active, take advantage of a variety of athletic leagues or programs like softball or basketball. If you prefer to get out and explore new places, join on one of the many trips to places like Grant Park, Burpee Museum of Natural History, Wrigley Field, and more.

Elmhurst Park District understands that finding time for recreational activities between family and work life often doesn't seem possible, but they are excited to be able to offer a variety of events and programs that allow you to find something that fits your busy schedule.
