Beyond the byline: Caroline Linden, Director of Community and Entertainment News

Growing up the daughter of a University of Missouri (Columbia) journalism professor, Caroline Linden, Director of Community and Entertainment News, never entertained the idea of a journalism career until she was recommended to take a journalistic writing class in high school. She was told her writing was too long-winded and this might help. When her feature on the marching band drum majors was chosen to run in the paper, she was hooked.

Two days after graduating from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, she started as a copy editor on the Daily Herald's night desk. That was 26 years ago.

After six months, she moved to the day desk as a Time out! copy editor, giving her the opportunity to design creative pages for the weekly entertainment section and learn as much as she could about the suburban entertainment scene.

In 2013, she transitioned to Assistant Entertainment Editor, with duties including writing a weekly Dining Out column, editing dining reviews and entertainment stories, designing Time out! pages, publishing entertainment and lifestyle stories to dailyherald.com, writing an occasional dining review and more.

Her duties today as Director of Community and Entertainment News expand on that background as she leads entertainment coverage for Time out! and Time out! Sunday and oversees the Neighbor section for the print and digital products.

Like her Twitter tag says, when she's not cheering on the NU Wildcats (and soon the Fighting Illini, where her oldest daughter will start in August), you can find her out running.
