Batavia's Windmill City Festival returns with fun favorites

Windmill City Festival, Batavia's largest summer event, returns this week with carnival fun on Houston Street, along with tasty food and beverages, live musical entertainment, several competitions, games and activities for all ages.

Organized by the Batavia Park District and the City of Batavia, Windmill City Festival returns to downtown Batavia Friday, July 7, through Sunday, July 9. The festival will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Returning to rock Batavia are some of Chicago's favorite bands, including The Wayouts, Modern Day Romeos, Radio Gaga and Lounge Puppets. Whether they are playing rock 'n' roll, pop, country or other rhythmic sounds, these and other crowd-pleasing bands stir up outstanding shows.

Come to eat, drink and dance under the stars. Visit windmillcityfest.org for the full musical lineup.

Many traditions are returning to Windmill City Festival in addition to the great music and popular carnival rides. You'll find activities for everyone, from babies to pets.

Tee off across Depot Pond in the Golf Challenge and compete for prizes for a hole-in-one. Or, enter your pet in a charming Pet Competition, where furry and not-so-furry pets can compete in five categories: Best Kisser, Best Trick, Highest Jump, Best Costume and Most Unusual.

The Batavia Mothers' Club Foundation will host a Diaper Derby, where babies participate in a crawling race.

Why not share your artistic flair at the Sidewalk Chalk Drawing Contest? Artists of all ages can compete to win "People's Choice" and "Best of Batavia" categories.

Returning this year is the Windmill Whirl 5K race along the Fox River. Lace up your running shoes and join in this race that starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 9. Runners 21 and older can enjoy a craft beer from Energy City Brewing after the race.

All three days of the festival you can also duck into the Depot Museum to cool off, learn about Batavia's history and shop for unique Batavia merchandise.
