Bail was set at $100,000 Thursday for a Bellwood man accused of illegally possessing a loaded handgun.
John Templeton, 47, of the 2700 block of St. Charles Road, was arrested Wednesday in Naperville. He is charged with one count of being an armed habitual criminal based on his criminal history, which includes two convictions for manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, according to the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
At 6:43 p.m. Wednesday, a Naperville police officer pulled Templeton over for driving a vehicle with expired license plates, a news release said. The officer reported finding a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun in the vehicle.
If convicted, Templeton could be sentenced to six to 30 years in prison.
