Get challenged by wacky tasks at River View Miniature Golf event on July 14

Few things are more fun than a game of minigolf.

River View Miniature Golf Course along the Fox River in Pottawatomie Park is the perfect place for families and friends to gather for a game.

This summer, the park district-owned golf course features a few surprises such as Stanley's Spin Play.

Eight holes feature a special sign showcasing the frog mascot and asking players to take part in one of several wacky tasks before or while playing the green.

Such silly feats include left-handed putting, putting while standing on only one foot or facing backward and hitting the golf ball between your legs.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 14, River View will welcome the amphibian costumed character for Stanley's Park Pursuit.

This all-ages event will find attendees competing in 10 untimed physical and puzzle-based challenges throughout the park.

Those who successfully complete seven or more challenges will go home with a treat bag, two passes for rounds of miniature golf, as well as two guest passes to Swanson Pool.

Tickets are $15 per family and available at www.stcparks.org/events.

River View is also offering several specials this July and August with its Putt & Save promotion. Each day of the week brings a different opportunity to save.

Community members can take advantage of discounted rates for rounds of miniature golf and free ice cream with purchase, among other things.

"There are so many opportunities and options to take advantage of while at River View Miniature Golf Course," said Cayla Greenfield, Sportsplex & River View Miniature Golf Manager. "We love to see families, friends and dates come out and enjoy the variety of activities we have to offer."

Pottawatomie Park is also home to a number of other attractions. A refreshment stand features the latest hot eats and cool drinks of the season for reasonable rates.

Pedal boat and kayak rentals are available for those looking to see St. Charles from a unique perspective. People can opt to travel the scenic Fox River between the railroad trestle to the south and the stationed buoys to the north. Kayaks are for one individual only while pedal boats can accommodate up to four people.

Boats launch from the dock behind the miniature golf course. Renters must be 16 years or older, while those 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Another option for low-stakes fun is bocce ball and baggo. Sets of both bags and balls are available to rent from the refreshment stand for play in the park's permanent bags platforms and bocce courts.

Park visitors of all ages can enjoy a leisurely walk in the Native Plant Garden while little ones can play on one or both themed playgrounds.

And who doesn't want to climb to the top of the historic tower and see downtown St. Charles with a bird's eye view?

And when the sun goes down, the Pottawatomie Park Amphitheater lights up with a movie.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 14, families can enjoy an outdoor screening of the animated hit, "The Mitchells vs. the Machines."

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets (lawn chairs are not recommended given the area's grassy slope) for the free showing.

Concessions will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the STC Underground Teen Center.
