Is bridge ready to stand up for itself?
Rumor again, has it that the Long Grove Bridge is taking legal action. The bridge, ever-present whipping post of drivers who can't read signs and village leaders who can't read the reality of a bad idea of having a hobbit bridge in the middle of an American town, has had enough. Having been a patient victim of box truck abuse and public ridicule, the bridge has filed a restraining order with the proper officials that prohibits any vehicle from coming within 70 feet of its structure.
And while village officials continue to brag and assure the general public that the bridge is reinforced with steel and can take quite a beating, the bridge thinks otherwise and now feels it is time to end the abuse for good ol' bridge.
This is all hyperbole, of course, but my offer of free ice cream when the bridge is moved to the park or "protective custody" still stands.
