Oak Trace fundraises for the Alzheimer's Association
On Thursday, Oak Trace senior living community raised $250 for their Walk to End Alzheimer's team.
Honoring the Longest Day of the Year, the staff sold forget-me-not-planters and seeds to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
The longest day of the year is observed annually on June 21. It marks the summer solstice or the day in which there is the most light, symbolizing the fight against the darkness of Alzheimer's disease. Individuals, groups and organizations are encouraged to create fundraising events on that day to support the Alzheimer's Association.
Various fundraising initiatives are held throughout the year at Oak Trace. It brought their fundraising proceeds to $1,000.
Events include the opportunity to throw pies in the faces of leadership, casual-for-a-cause days during which staff can wear jeans, and more.
Oak Trace's team, which has a fundraising goal of $5,000, will participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's DuPage County, which will be held on Sept. 17 in Naperville.
"Our staff knows the impact that Alzheimer's has on residents, their loved ones, and caregivers. While they provide excellent care and attention to the residents in memory care at Oak Trace, they are committed to do what they're able to help find a cure for this devastating disease. We are proud of all their efforts," said Dan Harrington, executive director of Oak Trace.
