Reboot your mind and let go of negative thoughts

"If you continue in my word ... then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

- John 8:32 (NIV)

In my conversation with an old friend of mine, she asked about an issue I had on my mind about 25 years ago.

I said, "I don't fill my mind's space up with that anymore. I haven't in years. Now I'm in a new season of my life, with new things in mind."

She laughed at my mention of a new season, and new thoughts. She shared how true that is. We all have them. That mind connection between those troubling thoughts and our everyday lives.

Over the years, they come and go with the resolutions of the old problems and the creation of the new difficulties.

We deal with all sorts of thoughts. Some are defeating. We think we're failures when something doesn't work out the way we want it to, or we are afraid of failing when it comes trying again.

Many thoughts challenge our own self-worth or self-esteem. I'm not attractive enough, I don't make enough money, I don't measure up to my friends or neighbors.

Some thought patterns form because of difficulties in our lives. We have challenging circumstances, people, financial problems and general life decisions that keep us stuck revolving around one particular thought. Sometimes they come from negative comments made to us that we can't seem to shake off.

Then there's what I like to term the bedhead terrors. When you either can't fall asleep because of too many thoughts rolling around in your head, or you wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back to sleep because you can't seem to shut down the thoughts.

Many times we stay stuck in low self-esteem or lack of constructive performance.

A lot of our sins and rebellious attitudes are fueled by this mind connection.

But there is hope. We can go to the Bible and hold on to God's truth. It will set us free from troubling thoughts.

We read things like "God forgives us"; "God loves us"; "He wants to bless us and heal us."

When we're feeling all hope is gone, we can get revived in our souls by rebooting our brains with the truth.
