Letter: Reporting shows failures of journalism

Journalism is dead. While the indictment of former President Donald Trump has been nonstop news since his indictment on June 6, the blockbuster news that an executive of the Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings paid Vice President Joe Biden $5 million as part of a bribery scheme has been totally ignored by the national and local media including this newspaper, not even a page 10 footnote.

An unclassified FBI FD-1023 document has been central to a whistleblower probe by the House Oversight Committee. The document is dated June 30, 2020 and is based on an FBI interview with what the agency describes as a highly paid confidential FBI informant that has worked with the agency since 2010. Whether the findings in this probe turn out to be true or not, this is huge news.

Imagine if Trump was accused of a $5 million bribe. The media would do somersaults 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is sad that news of this magnitude has to be reported in an Opinion Section. Journalism is truly dead.
