Letter: Pence has demonstrated values, strength

The Daily Herald recently published an article by Byron York about Mike Pence. York considers Pence's presidential run to be "ill-starred" with "impossible odds." Though he recognizes Pence's stellar resume and "backbone," York can't seem to understand how Pence can take pride in the accomplishments of the Trump-Pence administration even while Pence acknowledges that he strongly disagrees with some of Trump's behavior, especially near the end of that administration.

I urge Daily Herald readers to read the Pence book "So Help Me God." When I did, I learned that, even though Trump made Pence's vice-presidency difficult at times, they were still able to work together to achieve significant accomplishments. I came to see Mike Pence as just the candidate I, a longtime conservative, have been awaiting. I see an honest family man who always tries to do the right thing even if it's not politically popular. Pence studies, thinks and prays before all major decisions, he speaks with civility to both those who agree with him and those who don't and he bravely does his duty for the good of our country as shown on multiple occasions, especially on January 6, 2021.

Both times Trump was running for president, I was advised by fellow conservatives to overlook his character and focus instead on the positions he had taken. "Hold your nose and vote for Trump" was the phrase some actually used. Well, I don't want to have to hold my nose when I vote; I would gladly support Mike Pence and would be proud to have him as our President.
