Nursing assistant accused of abusing patient at Elgin Mental Health Center

A certified nursing assistant has been arrested on allegations she abused a patient at the Elgin Mental Health Center, the Illinois State Police announced.

Lauren D. Carroll, 38, of Calumet City surrendered to the Kane County sheriff's office Monday, the news release said. A warrant for her arrest had been issued Friday.

The state police began investigating Carroll after a report of an April 30 battery, the news release said.

Carroll is charged with felony abuse or neglect of a long-term care facility resident, felony official misconduct and misdemeanor battery. She is free after posting $1,000 as bond.

The investigation is ongoing. No other information was released Monday.
