Letter: Politicians are just addicted to spending
There are various types of addiction, such as addiction to alcohol, narcotics, tobacco, gambling and many other things.
Too many of our politicians, however, are addicted to spending our money. People must limit their spending to meet their income, but these politicians adjust income to meet spending. When money becomes available, because it is left over from some project or if a project is canceled, they look for ways to spend it. They can't help it; they're addicted.
The most intelligent response to a debate question that I've heard, came from Lynn Martin, when she ran for the Senate. She was asked how she would spend money that had become available. Without hesitation, she said that it was simple: instead of spending it, it would stay in the treasury.
