Three local churches to partner for Aurora Pride parade June 11

For a second year, three suburban churches will team up for Aurora's Pride parade on Sunday, June 11.

They are New England Congregational and Wesley United Methodist in Aurora and Unitarian Universalist Society in Geneva.

The Rev. Brandon Perrine, New England senior minister, said his church will host a multi-congregation Pride breakfast and worship service.

From 8:30 to 10 a.m., Wesley UMC volunteers will make and serve "Pride Cakes" at New England. Admission is free although donations will be accepted.

A joint worship service will follow the breakfast.

"We (will) eat, rally, worship and walk to the parade together," the Rev. Perrine said.

Groups from the three churches will be among units marching in the parade.

A Unitarian statement said the parade is "to celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in our region in a time of fear, division, and hate."

The fourth annual Aurora Pride parade kicks off at noon at East Benton Street and South Broadway.

The city government's annual Pride flag-raising ceremony is Friday, June 9.
