Letter: Political leaders are not doing their job

The Constitution was written and fought over as a result of the Revolutionary War. Our forefathers fought a hard battle against the British to free the Colonies in 1776. The constant battle between political parties continues to create chaos and distrust.

For instance, America has not passed an immigration reform bill for 40 years. President Obama, presented an Immigration Reform Bill, but it wasn't voted on. Now we have a crisis. Desperate people flee their countries many because of global warming, poverty, drugs and life under fascist/Autocratic Governments. We watch cruel politicians bully, shame and lie and when truth comes forward, they become defensive.

Americans deserve political leaders who are intelligent, clear minded, thoughtful and solve problems. Not whine that nothing gets done. the national debt should be paid down. The debt was at $19.9 trillion in 2020. And, we still gave the wealthy a one trillion dollar tax cut. The national debt hit $27.7 trillion on the day Biden was inaugurated.

Why didn't Congress vote to lower the debt under the last president? Americans struggle with escalating costs. Government allows policies that drive workers, jobless, homeless and hungry. One national shame is not taking better care of our veterans. Congress needs to work on an economy and tax system that is fair and just for all.

Fear now surrounds pregnancy, as state politicians plan more inhuman ways to treat pregnant women. There are states that give women no choice but to carry a baby full-term, even if it involves death.

State governments belittle and challenge LGBTQ youth and adults who comprise only 5% percent of the American population. Protecting one's decision over their body is a right, not a crime.

Where is Congress on a Bill to save the lives of our children from guns?
