Recipes from tried and true sources are at the heart of the section. It's for people who love to cook and those who love to eat. And, with colorful, inviting photography, we hope it's a pleasure to read, too.

Our mission focuses more on eating well than the latest trends, but we're hip to writing about recipes that take the internet by storm. That pasta that broke social media is one of the keepers, and so is the simple sheetpan dinner.

With the help of our local columnists, we cover it all, from quick weeknight dinners for busy families to decadent desserts that might take you the whole day to create - but with local flavor.

Columnists write about what they know best, and it's clear by the mail we get that people relate to it.

We have a columnist who writes about soup, being a self-styled soupaholic, and one who lost a significant amount of weight eating a no-sugar, low-carbohydrate diet. He loves to cook that way, too, and has been sharing his journey with Daily Herald readers for more than 30 years.

One writer's column is appropriately titled Culinary Adventures, and the authors of both Momma Chef and My Bizzy Kitchen are expert food bloggers with quite a following. They've both written recent cookbooks, too.

One writer runs a cooking school, where she teaches kids how to cook and get more involved in picking the foods they eat. Another writes solely on wine and blends history and trends into her recommendations for the best vinos available in Chicagoland.

You'll find what's exciting about healthy cooking mixed with decadent comfort food and a little world travel thrown in through our offerings from The Washington Post and The Associated Press.

With all the recipe options at your fingertips, the Food section remains one to turn to. We're trying to put a down-to-earth spin on the question, "What's for dinner?"
