Oakton College Athletics Golf Outing Fundraiser supports student-athletes

Des Plaines, Ill. (May 25, 2023) - Spend a day on the golf course with family and support Oakton student-athletes by participating in the second annual Oakton College Athletics Golf Outing Fundraiser Monday, June 19. All proceeds from the event will support student-athlete travel expenses for special competitive opportunities.

"It is a huge commitment to be an athlete at a community college because of the need to balance academics, training and personal and family responsibilities," said Christine Paciero, Oakton Athletics senior manager. "Our golf outing fundraiser is quickly becoming a highly anticipated event that raises funds for special team trips not covered by the College, creating an equitable team and equitable student-athlete experiences."

"Many of our students don't have fundraising networks. The funds we raise will help remove that burden for our student-athletes when we travel to compete."

In recent years, the Owls celebrated many athletic successes. The women's basketball team played in the NJCAA District B final in 2022 and 2023 and was one game away from qualifying for the national championship tournament. The baseball team won the Regional 4 Division III tournament and participated in the NJCAA DIII World Series in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, and won the DIII national championship in 2018. Additionally, over the last several years, individual athletes have competed at their respective national events in tennis, cross country and golf. Most recently, Zarina Sayed (Niles North) and Ellie Martin (Maine West) competed at this year's D1 national tennis tournament in Tyler, Texas.

The June 19 golf outing kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Heritage Oaks Golf Club, 3535 Dundee Rd, Northbrook. The outing will be played in a scramble format.
