Letter: Why pass laws we won't enforce?

Last week, I saw a very frustrated Tom Dart (our Cook County Sheriff) on a TV news segment talking about gun enforcement.

He stated that in Cook County, there have been 27,000 FOID cards revoked, but no guns have been confiscated.

So there are 27,000 people out there that we consider high risk for misusing guns and yet no guns have been taken away from them. Many of these people could own multiple guns, so the number of guns available to these risky people is staggering.

He said there is no money to enforce the confiscation process. So what's the point of having FOID cards and registering guns - just a moneymaker for the state?

Hey, Illinois, let's pass more gun laws we can't enforce just so it looks like our government is doing something.
