Hunt Club Park and community center closed briefly for pool chemical leak

Hunt Club Park and the community center, 900 N. Hunt Club Road, in Gurnee closed for about 90 minutes early Thursday due to a report of a pool chemical leak. Firefighters were called to an area outside the aquatic center about 6:30 a.m. The daily inspection showed a valve on a tank leaked and a small amount of hydrochloric acid solution was released, according Susie Kuruvilla, executive director of the Gurnee Park District. Out of an abundance of caution, the entire park and community center was closed from about 7 to 8:30 a.m., before opening to the public. No injuries were reported. The Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday on Memorial Day weekend to start the 2023 season.
