Renowned dementia educator coming to Barrington

This World Alzheimer's Day (Sept. 21), local nonprofit Bacoa is hosting an all-day educational seminar titled "Bacoa Presents Teepa Snow: Shining a Positive Light on Dementia" with world-renowned educator, consultant, author and founder of Positive Approach to Care (PAC) Teepa Snow.

Known for her expertise and passion for helping people with dementia and their caregivers, Teepa is a highly sought-after speaker at conferences and events around the globe.

Bacoa's World Alzheimer's Day event is part of the organization's larger Dementia Friendly Barrington Area Initiative, which, in response to Illinois' rising prevalence of dementia, seeks to eliminate the stigma of dementia and provide a network of dementia-friendly services, resources and educational events to families across Illinois.

Located at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, the seminar will cater to professional and family caregivers. Topics include: "Brain Changes in Dementia," "Understanding the Different Dementias," and "Coping with Challenging Situations in Dementia Care."

"Our office is receiving more calls about dementia than ever before," said Pam Pellizzari, Bacoa Memory Programs manager.

"It's so important that we get out into the community and offer people the resources they need. I've seen Teepa speak at events, and she is an incredible presenter - a must-see for anyone whose life has been touched by dementia."

Tickets are available at www.bacoa.org. Ticket purchasers will receive all-day access to Teepa's three presentations, dementia-friendly vendor booths, and a complimentary, brain-healthy lunch.

General admission tickets are $75; $125 tickets are available for nurses, physical therapists, and social workers who'd like to earn six Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending the seminar.
