Letter: Low lake levels are unnecessary
So I went to the one and only meeting per year of Long Lake Improvement and Sanitation Association to complain again, as I have for 10 years, that they are lowering the lake unnaturally by opening their sluice gate and letting the water go out to the chain. They close the sluice gate at a low level of 739.1. (There is an engineer on the board).
Since 2018, this has been done regularly, resulting in low water. This time of year when there's low water, the sun hits the bottom and the weeds go nuts. In June, the algae blooms will bloom.
Meanwhile, I can't navigate my channel that I have for the past 30 years. They listened to me but avoided the questions and just assassinated my character.
Long Lakers when you're out on the water, take a look at the sea walls and you can see the line where the water should be. The extreme flood of 2017 may have scared them into creating extreme droughtlike conditions. But they won't answer any questions about that. Have a nice summer on your low lake.
