GreenFields of Geneva unveils wall of honor

GreenFields of Geneva unveiled its wall of honor earlier this month. The exhibit showcases 34 veterans currently living in the senior living community. There is also a list of all veterans who have lived in the community since it opened 11 years ago.

Photographer David Barnes, whose parents Donna and Harry Barnes were among the first residents of the senior living community, has stepped in to do projects for GreenFields through the years. Most recently, he photographed the veterans for Veteran's Day last year, with the wish that they all be remembered and honored for their service. The exhibit was so impactful that the decision was made for it to become permanent in a central hallway.

During the unveiling of the new installation, the Fox Valley-Geneva American Legion Post 74 helped with an honor ceremony. An All American lunch was served, including chili dogs, macaroni salad, apple pie and a red, white and blue salad.

"We honor and respect our veterans and are grateful for this imporant reminder of their service," said Tony Madl, executive director.
