Baseball notes: Takes some perseverance, but MSL gets their games in
Baseball can be timeless.
And there are Mid Suburban League teams that can attest to that.
On Wednesday April 21, six games in the MSL began. But due to lightening detectors and slight rain, only one was completed, with Barrington beating Fremd 2-0 in a game that had a pair of 19-minute lightning detector delays.
The other five were suspended to be completed the next day. Or that's what everyone had hoped.
But mother nature had other ideas and all five games were delayed again on Thursday.
Hersey and Buffalo Grove were in the bottom of the fourth when their game was suspended. Hersey was leading 2-1 at that time.
After three attempts, the teams finally completed their game on April 25, in of course, extra innings. Hersey won it 4-3 on a walk off, two-out hit by Aidan Groberski, scoring Drew Phillips, who had doubled.
Conant and Hoffman Estates also completed their game on April 25th. That's after a couple of starts and stops.
The teams played nearly two innings on the 21st with Conant leading 6-2. They got an inning completed the next day and Conant added a run to lead 7-2. The game was completed on April 25 with Conant winning 15-6.
Wheeling and Rolling Meadows were suspended in the top of the second with Wheeling leading 2-0. The game was set to resume the next day but suspended right as the teams completed infield.
The game finally completed Thursday, the 27th. And the score remained unchanged as Wheeling won 2-0. Zach Zangarsa's two-run double, back on April 19, was the difference.
Prospect and Elk Grove were in the top of the second inning when their game was halted. Prospect led 2-1. They also made two other attempts to play to no avail.
That game also was completed on Thursday the 27th with Prospect winning 8-6. Jack Mannion pitched the final three innings and had a key double to spark a 7th inning rally.
Schaumburg and Palatine were in the midst of their third delay when they completed their game Thursday. Palatine was leading 4-1 with two outs in the bottom of the first. It was suspended when they attempted to play the next day and this past Tuesday.
Palatine went on to win 13-7 in a slugfest.
Kostalek family grows:
Schaumburg coach Nick Kostalek can be excused for missing both days last week that his team attempted to play Palatine.
That's' because he and his wife Celine welcomed their new baby daughter Felicity Terese on April 14th.
